Ensemble in Residence 2012

Halcyon is delighted to be Ensemble in Residence this year at Sydney Grammar School.  It is a great opportunity to work alongside Dr Nicholas Vines and the music staff to interact with the music students in classes and presentations, and to showcase some of the amazing Australian and international we have performed and commissioned.

During March Alison and Jenny presented classes on contemporary chamber music to introduce the repertoire for SIRENS, the lunchtime performance on March 8 with soprano Belinda Montgomery, mezzo soprano Jo Burton and harpist Genevieve Lang.

In April we have begun working with Form IV on a composition project.  We've asked them to write a brief a cappella work for one or two voices.  Pieces will be discussed and presented in classes at the start of Term 2. Following this they will create a short work of vocal chamber music for voice/s and up to 2 instruments. Some of these pieces will be performed by Halcyon later in the year in a special showcase.
